General Concepts
External Data Library
Plant databases can easily grow to the order of thousands of various species. This is not something that you want to have to mange in a traditional Revit way (either types saved out into your families or via text-based Type Selectors). Instead, our library relies on a Load tool that loads types on the fly into your project from a local database. This database can be saved as either Excel or csv.
For more information and additional resources to help start or build your firm’s planting database, go to:Planting Database Resources
Four Main Parent Plants
These families all have “32-PLANT” at the beginning of their File Name.
When placing a Planting in a project, the family that is placed should always be a Parent Plant. Each Parent Plant relates to a specific configuration of planting parameters and corresponds to the asset types loaded into each parent. So before you load your species/types into a Family, consider which Parent Plant is the right fit:
What Parent Plant has the right parameters (does it need Staking or Plan Overlays) and does it also have the right assets? Check out the Plant Asset Gallery, if you’re not sure.

Features and Parameters
The Planting Library has a few common features, including:
- Width is independent from Height.
- All graphical and model components are Nested families within the Parent Plant. For more information on these, see the Asset section below.
There are several unique features within this library, including some atypical features. These features each have their own sub-page below:

Custom Symbols (Plan or Elevation)
While it is technically possible to create your own custom plan or elevation symbols, we generally recommend that users don’t go down this route, unless they are fully committed
Planting Tools
The Planting Tools are a small set of tools that are included with the price of the Planting Content Library. They install on the FOREground ribbon, but are separate from the FOREground tools. They are designed to work exclusively with the Prlx Planting Library.

Workflows
These workflows are designed to demonstrate the broad range of things that can be done with the Prlx Planting Library. Each one includes its use case, a quick video gif demonstrating the workflow, and a step-by-step guide with detailed explanations and annotated screenshots.
Workflow Types
A quick way to see all of the workflows grouped together via tagged types.
Additional Support Files
There are several Schedules and View Filters included with the library. These can be found in the file: Plant Schedule Filters For Transfer. There is also a full Shared Parameters txt file included with the support files. More information on all of these and be found on their sub-pages below:
